You loved them well.
You showed up. You loved. You gave.
And your adult child still walked away.
You know what it is to lie awake at night replaying every conversation. Wondering what you did wrong. Carrying shame you were never meant to carry.
You know what it is to sit at a holiday table with an empty chair. To see your grandchildren growing up in photos you are not in. To watch the phone sit silent when your heart is screaming.
The pain of adult child estrangement is unlike any other loss.
Because your child is still alive, the world doesn't recognize the depth of your grief. Friends don't know what to say. Family members choose sides. And somewhere in the silence you started to wonder if maybe they were right about you.

Rejected Yet Redeemed
Hope, Healing and Faith for Parents of Estranged Adult Children
In Rejected Yet Redeemed, Susan Metzger walks alongside estranged parents with biblical truth, personal honesty, and unflinching hope. Drawing from the life of King David — a man who knew rejection, betrayal, and waiting — she offers a path forward that does not require reconciliation to begin.
Inside you will find:
Language for what you have been living without words for
Biblical truth that meets you in the waiting room — not around it
The story of King David as a framework for your own journey through rejection
Permission to heal now — not when your child comes home
A path from heartbreak to hope that is honest, practical, and rooted in faith
Reflection questions and journaling prompts for each chapter
Discover how to live unbroken — even when you feel unloved and unwanted
You are not what happened to you.
And you were never meant to stay in the waiting room forever.
Susan Metzger is the founder of the Parents in the Waiting Room community and host of the Flip Flops and Freedom podcast. After years of carrying her own estrangement story in silence, she stepped out in faith, shared her experience publicly, and watched thousands of parents find each other.
She writes and speaks from the intersection of real life and deep faith — not as someone who has arrived, but as someone who has walked this road. Her mission is to bring hope and light into your world

The leader kit is designed to stand on its own for group facilitation. The book goes deeper into every topic covered in the sessions and is strongly encouraged for both leaders and participants. It is available on Amazon.
Do participants need the book?
The book is strongly encouraged but not required. If someone cannot afford it or is not yet sure they want to commit, they can still participate meaningfully in the group.

Sessions are designed to run approximately 60 to 75 minutes including video teaching, discussion, and closing prayer. The video teaching itself is 20 to 30 minutes.
